Dreams for a Winter’s Evening

February 28 – April 16, 2018

It’s been a winter of dreams. Vivid and fleeting, although the other night I managed to catch one.

I dreamt I was playing Twister underwater, with a pod of rainbow-coloured fish. They kept chanting “right hand on red!” and I kept spinning right hand on red. I wasn’t sure what was going on until I looked down and saw my right hand had turned into a large, red fin.

I used my new fin to spin again, but this time I spun myself into a world of doubles – two suns, two moons, and every living thing next to its twin. I started speaking in twos, too:

“Hello, hello,” I’d say, as I passed a pair of matching toucans. “Lovely day, lovely day.”

Then two little blond girls floated by in a giant shoe, and as I greeted them with double hellos, they looked me in the eyes and whispered:

“Same, same…but different.”
